Dressage Level Guide

This is The Riding Rendezvous dressage level guide. Please use this guide when attending our clinics.
This can also be used to gauge your ability level, and what you may need to improve on/or might be struggling with.

FUNDAMENTAL

â—¦ Rider understands 80% of gaps, timing, and alignment.
â—¦ Rider is confident with simple one-go, one-step moves.
â—¦ Rider can communicate an understanding of moves.
â—¦ Rider follows arena etiquette.

â—¦ Rider can recite the meter points and arena lines.
â—¦ Rider can follow along to commanders calling.
 

BEGINNER

â—¦ Rider understands 90% of gaps, timing, and alignment.
â—¦ Rider is confident with simple 2 go moves.
â—¦ Rider understands odd and even labels.
â—¦ Rider understands screen delay & and how to work around it.
â—¦ 
Rider can perform 1 go odd and even moves.
â—¦ Rider understands how to make a proper circle.
â—¦ Rider can differentiate a legal vs illegal dye.

â—¦ Rider can perform simple arena shapes.

INTERMEDIATE

â—¦ Rider is confident with gaps, timing, and alignment.
â—¦ Rider is confident with simple 2 and 3-go moves.
â—¦ Rider can assign themself an odd and even label.
â—¦ 
Rider can perform 2 go odd and even moves.
â—¦ Rider understands the moves off the wall or main lines.
â—¦ Rider understands the arena wall meter system.
​◦ Rider can perform complex arena shapes (ie. eclipse).

â—¦ Confident with out-of-line work.
â—¦ Has ridden in a simple routine or showcases.

ADVANCED

â—¦ Gaps, timing, and alignment are routine.
â—¦ Rider is confident with 3 - 5-go moves.
â—¦ Rider can ride in multi-secondary numbered movements.
â—¦ 
Rider can perform most odd and even moves.
â—¦ Rider understands the arena in full.
​◦ Rider can perform improv arena shapes (ie. Neptune).
​◦ Rider prefers out-of-line work.
â—¦ Has ridden in a complex routine or showcase as a main or capable alternative.
â—¦ Rider can perform a pinwheel.
â—¦ Rider can reteach the knowledge they have (learning to instruct).
â—¦
Rider understands the fundamentals it choreographing a routine.

ELITE

â—¦ Rider has memorized 80% of our dictionary.
â—¦ Rider can perform any move or shape asked of them.
â—¦ Rider can create interesting and unique moves.
â—¦ Rider has ridden in more than 3 routines as a main or capable alternative.
â—¦ Rider regularly commands lines at the advanced level.
â—¦ Rider can choreograph a complex routine.
â—¦ Rider can understand a scoresheet and is able to judge a routine.
