Why Games?
Ending, or incorporating games into your lessons is a fun way to make dressage more entertaining. Games are always a great way to help with memorization and comprehension.
Below are our top 7 favorite dressage games to play.
Arena Lines game
Minimum Player Number : 1
Challenge level : Low
HOW TO PLAY
Have all riders stand on X point, and hit the hotkey K to enter the global store.
The commander will call out different lines within the arena (and what side of the arena you would like them on)
The commander will use the phrase "AREN LINE SET, GO"
The riders will quickly exit the global store, run to what they belive is the called line, then reenter the global store
On "GO" everyone will exit global store, and the commander will see who is right
Those who are wrong are 'disqualified', and will go stand by the closet/ AFK space.
PURPOSE
To familiarize riders with the arena lines.
Dressage Go
Minimum Player Number : 8 (the more the better)
Challenge level : Low
HOW TO PLAY
Pick a designated arena of Jorvik, and create clear guidelines. The smaller the area the easier it will be.
- Our favorite locations are Jarlahiem, Silverglade Village, Southhood, and Epona.
There will be 2 seekers, who will go into the global store somewhere central in the area of the game.
All hiders will be DMed a move or concept from our dictionary.
When seekers find a hider, they will say 'GO', and then the hider will say the definition of their move/ concept, and the seeker will be left to guess the title.
If the seeker guesses wrong the hider goes into the global store.
If the seeker guesses right, they get to 'pick up' the hider, group them, and take them along.
The seeker with the most people is the winner
PURPOSE
Make a fun way for everyone to practice their dressage vocabulary.
dot Tag
Minimum Player Number : 5 (the more the better)
Challenge level : Low
HOW TO PLAY
All riders stand at random points in the arena in the global store.
On "GO" all riders will start galloping around.
The goal, like playing freeze tag, is to tag as many people as you want.
- To counteract screen delay you must type 'TAG' as at the gallop you are about 5 horses behind for others.
When you get tagged you must halt on a metered dot, and when someone comes to get you out you must ask them a dressage question (can be anything the rider may think of, move name, definition, etc).
If the untagger gets it right, then you are free to go (all of this should happen through chat).
You cannot be a tagger whilst untagging someone else.
- To signify you are in that process you must not be moving, and wear a designated color tail bow or hat for the time in which you are waiting.
PURPOSE
Help with move terminology, and a quick unwind after a long or intense practice.
12 letters
Minimum Player Number : 6 (the more the better)
Challenge level : Low
HOW TO PLAY
The commander will stand on X point, in the global store.
The riders will get 15 seconds to run to an arena letter.
The commander, while still in the global store will call a letter.
- If they call your letter, you're out.
Last one standing wins!
PURPOSE
Fun cool down after a long practice, or introducing arena letters to new riders.
PIvot Game
Minimum Player Number : 1
Challenge level : Moderate
HOW TO PLAY
Everyone will stand along the centerline on their own dot, facing E wall, with the commander standing slightly ahead of them.
It will start simple, with pivots such as half pivot, quarter pivot, and so on.
It gets complex when you add smaller pivot fractions and the slant + slant = straight rule.
The commander will call "PIVOT SET, GO" and there are two ways to get out:
a.) you do the pivot wrong
b.) you go late and wait to watch others
PURPOSE
To help familiarize riders with wacky combinations and 'pivot/ slant math'
Dressage Pictionary
Minimum Player Number : 5 (the more the better)
Challenge level : Moderate
HOW TO PLAY
All riders will stand in the AFK/ closet area.
The first rider will volunteer (or can be chosen).
The said riders will get a DM from the commander with a move and description (can be any level of a single move).
Everyone will get on the overhead camera and will watch as the designated rider performs their move.
Once you think you know what it is, put your guess in SSO say, or club chat.
The first person to type the right answer wins!
The person who wins is the next to preform the move.
PURPOSE
To help riders gain confidence preforming alone, as well as to help with memorization.
Spell it out
Minimum Player Number : 5 (the more the better)
Challenge level : Moderate (on the difficult side)
HOW TO PLAY
All riders will stand in the AFK/ Closet area.
The first rider can volunteer (or be chosen).
The rider is going to pick a word (can be anything, food, drink, color) and will tell the commander.
The rider is then going to spell out their word, scaling it out to fit into the arena dots, and making proper sharp turns, and soft lines.
Once you think you know what the word is, put your guess in SSO say, or club chat.
The first person to type the right answer wins, and will get to be the next writer.
PURPOSE
Give riders a chance to practice complex and abstract arena shapes.
